Striking group home workers in Connecticut have reached an agreement with two out of three agencies overseeing homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to union officials.
Pension Agreement Reached With Two Agencies
The New England Health Care Employees Union, SEIU 1199NE, announced that Alternate Services Inc. and Network Inc. signed an agreement on Saturday. Under the deal, both agencies will increase monthly pension contributions by 0.2%, helping ensure the long-term stability of workers’ retirement funds.
One Agency Yet to Commit
While progress has been made, the union confirmed that Caring Community in Colchester has not yet signed the agreement. Negotiations remain ongoing, and workers are calling for all agencies to step up and protect their pensions.
Workers Walked Off the Job
On Friday morning, nearly 300 group home caregivers went on strike demanding stronger pension support. The walkout highlighted the financial struggles and retirement concerns facing frontline caregivers who provide essential support to residents with disabilities.
Agencies Have Yet to Respond
NBC Connecticut reported that outreach to the three agencies was made when the strike began, but no official responses have been received so far.
