PayPal has officially announced a groundbreaking partnership with OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, to embed its digital wallet directly into ChatGPT. Starting in 2026, users will be able to shop, make payments, and complete purchases within ChatGPT’s interface—without leaving the platform.

Through this collaboration, PayPal’s global payment network will be fully integrated with OpenAI’s systems, allowing millions of users to buy products instantly via ChatGPT. “Hundreds of millions of PayPal wallet holders will soon be able to click the ‘Buy with PayPal’ button inside ChatGPT, ensuring a safe, reliable, and seamless checkout experience.”
In addition, PayPal will handle payment processing and verification for merchants using ChatGPT, meaning sellers won’t have to create separate accounts with OpenAI. Shoppers can pay using linked bank accounts, credit cards, or existing PayPal balances—just like on traditional e-commerce platforms.
