The arrest of iBomma Ravi, widely known as the “piracy king,” has stirred major discussions across the Telugu film industry. While filmmakers and producers have welcomed his arrest, Ravi’s father Apparao has created a storm with his unexpected and controversial comments on Tollywood heroes, large movie budgets, and producer C. Kalyan.
Apparao questioned the film industry’s approach to spending hundreds of crores on movies and then placing the financial burden on the audience. He openly admitted that his son’s involvement in piracy was wrong, but strongly criticized the industry for passing judgments before the law takes its course. His harsh remarks on actor Pawan Kalyan, megastar Chiranjeevi, and producer C. Kalyan have now gone viral.
Industry Celebrates His Arrest, but Public Support Surfaces Too
Police recently arrested Ravi for running major piracy platforms including iBomma and BappamTV. Over the past few days, discussions about the case have dominated TV channels and social media. While the film fraternity expressed full support for the arrest, parts of the public surprisingly backed Ravi, arguing the industry’s pricing and practices push people toward piracy.
Amid this unexpected support, Ravi’s father delivered a series of explosive comments targeting top Tollywood personalities.
“Who Gave C. Kalyan the Right to Call for an Encounter?” – Apparao
Producer C. Kalyan had earlier stated that Ravi should be encountered. Reacting strongly, Apparao said:
“If someone needs to be encountered, then encounter Kalyan or his son first. Who gave film people the authority to demand an encounter?”
He questioned the industry’s spending patterns, saying filmmakers create movies with massive budgets and then expect people to bear the costs:
“You spend hundreds of crores on films. Why should the public suffer for your decisions? My son did wrong, and the police will deal with it. But why should movie people act like judges?”
Apparao also mentioned that police allowed him to speak to his son twice after the arrest.
“Why Spend Crores on Movies? Why Push the Burden on the Audience?”
Continuing his criticism, Apparao compared today’s big-budget films with the movies made during the golden era of Telugu cinema:
“NT Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and Sobhan Babu never made films with hundreds of crores. They shot locally, worked with simple resources, and still delivered great hits.”
He said moviegoers today fear going to theatres because ticket prices and production hype create unnecessary pressure.
Apparao questioned:
“Why go abroad and waste crores? Why give heroes such massive remuneration? Isn’t all of this unnecessary?”
“New Actors Are Everywhere—Why Not Promote Them?”
Apparao argued that India is filled with talented young actors and filmmakers, and the industry should give opportunities to newcomers who charge less or even act for free.
He commented on the rise of stars like Pawan Kalyan and Nagarjuna:
“Were they extraordinary when they started? Look at their early movies. They were normal. If they can become stars, why can’t newcomers?”
He also criticized the system of family legacy in Tollywood:
“Chiranjeevi succeeded because Allu Ramalingaiah supported him after marriage. Pawan Kalyan became a hero because he’s Chiranjeevi’s brother. Most are products of nepotism—why pay them crores?”
“If You Want to Talk About Encounters, Start With C. Kalyan”
Apparao’s most intense comments were directed at C. Kalyan. He said:
“If you want encounters, start with C. Kalyan. If something happens to my son, I would feel pain. Let him experience that pain first and then talk. Who asked him to invest crores in movies? It’s his greed.”
He added that if anyone commits a crime, the law will punish them—not film personalities.
He concluded:
“Let the courts decide. Who is he to say encounter my son? And who am I to say encounter someone else? That’s why we have the law.”
