An Indian nurse in Singapore has been sentenced to 14 months in jail and two strokes of the cane after being found guilty of molesting a male hospital visitor under the guise of performing a disinfection procedure.
According to court documents, 34-year-old Elipe Siva Nagu committed the offence on June 18, 2025, at Raffles Hospital, located on North Bridge Road. The incident occurred when the victim had gone to visit his ailing grandfather admitted to the hospital.
Incident Details
During the evening visit, around 7:30 p.m., the victim entered a patient’s toilet when the nurse, Elipe, allegedly looked inside and claimed he needed to “disinfect” the visitor. Pretending to perform the disinfection, he applied soap to his hand and proceeded to molest the victim.
The victim, taken aback and unable to respond immediately, returned to his grandfather’s room in shock. The disturbing incident was reported to the Singapore Police on June 21, and the nurse was arrested two days later.
Legal Proceedings and Hospital Action
Following the report, Raffles Hospital swiftly suspended the nurse from duty pending investigation. During the court hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua revealed that the victim had suffered emotional trauma and flashbacks since the assault.
After reviewing the evidence, the Singapore court sentenced Elipe on Friday to one year and two months of imprisonment and two strokes of the cane, underscoring Singapore’s strict stance on sexual offences and workplace misconduct.
Singapore’s Firm Stand on Sexual Misconduct
Singapore is known for its tough laws against sexual harassment and molestation, regardless of the gender of the victim. The case serves as a reminder of the country’s zero-tolerance policy towards any form of inappropriate behavior in professional environments, including hospitals and healthcare facilities.
