Mahindra Vision T and Vision SXT: Mahindra has taken the wraps off four new concept SUVs at its Freedom NU event in Mumbai, Maharashtra. All four are built on the company’s latest NU IQ platform, with internal combustion (ICE) variants expected first, followed by electric vehicle (EV) versions in the future. Among these, the Mahindra Vision T and Mahindra Vision SXT stand out as the most rugged and off-road-focused designs.
Mahindra Vision T – A Glimpse of the Future Thar EV
The Mahindra Vision T is a bold, futuristic SUV that many enthusiasts are already calling the electric version of the Mahindra Thar. It also seems to be a closer-to-production take on the earlier Thar.e concept. Larger than 4 meters, the Vision T is muscular, boxy, and unmistakably built for off-road adventures.
Up front, the SUV sports squarish LED headlights paired with H-shaped DRLs, vertical grille slats, chunky bumpers, and flared wheel arches. Adding to its tough persona are M/T tyres, large alloy wheels, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. On the inside, Mahindra has gone with a rugged yet futuristic design featuring a multi-layered dashboard, portrait-style infotainment system, and a horizontal digital instrument cluster. The gear shifter’s exposed mechanism and chunky grab rails on the center console further emphasize its off-road DNA.
The Vision T concept also hints at features like a removable roof, off-road ABS, traction control, and a 4X4 transfer case with crawl mode, ensuring it remains true to Mahindra’s off-road legacy.
Mahindra Vision SXT – The Modern Bolero Invader
While the Vision T looks like a modern Thar, the Mahindra Vision SXT can be seen as a spiritual successor to the Bolero Invader. This SUV adopts a unique mini pickup-like design by omitting the roof section behind the C-pillars, giving it a bold and rally-inspired appearance.
The Vision SXT shares much of its design DNA with the Vision T, including H-shaped LED DRLs, square fog lamps, and muscular bumpers. However, it also introduces unique elements like a horizontal grille treatment, dual high-mount stop lamps, and a sturdy roll bar. At the Freedom NU event, Mahindra even showcased it with dual spare tyres for a rally-ready look, though the production version will likely feature a more practical empty load bed.
Inside, the Vision SXT mirrors the Vision T’s interior setup, with the same rugged dashboard design, infotainment system, and grab-rail-equipped center console.
Shared DNA, Distinct Identities
Both the Vision T and Vision SXT share the same NU IQ platform and are expected to offer a choice of petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains. Their upright stance, exposed door hinges, and butch proportions reinforce their off-road persona, while design variations give them unique identities.
