Cameron Boyce Death: Happy Gilmore 2 has many celebrity cameos, but there was one particular moment that was very subtle – and may have been missed by many viewers. But it was this moment that became the film’s most emotional and meaningful tribute.
In the opening scene of this Netflix sequel, Adam Sandler’s character ‘Happy Gilmore’ is seen at a check-in booth at a golf course. At the time, two employees in the booth are watching an old episode of the popular Disney Channel show Jessie. The late actor Cameron Boyce played ‘Luke Ross’ on the show. A glimpse of cameras is very briefly seen on a small TV screen in the bottom right corner of the scene.
Adam Sandler played Cameron Boyce’s father ‘Lenny Feder’ in the 2010 film Grown Ups and 2013’s Grown Ups 2. Not only this, Sandler also made a guest appearance on the show Jessie in 2013. Unfortunately, Cameron Boyce passed away in July 2019 from an epileptic seizure at the age of just 20.
In 2020, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Adam Sandler remembered him in front of the cameras –
“He was a great kid and a great actor. I saw him as a little kid in Grown Ups and then he became a superstar. My kids idolized him. He came to my daughter’s bat mitzvah and signed autographs for the 400 kids who were there. He was always involved in some charity or the other and would call me over and over again for charity. He just wanted to help others. A genuine, talented and good-hearted person.”
Fans also got emotional after seeing this subtle yet heartwarming tribute in Happy Gilmore 2. Many on social media appreciated this tribute. A fan wrote on Twitter –
“Adam Sandler paying tribute to Cameron Boyce in Happy Gilmore 2 was an emotional moment.”
Another user wrote –
“This small tribute to Cameron Boyce stirred my emotions. RIP Cameron. Adam Sandler is truly a true hero.”
It is worth noting that apart from this special cameo, many big celebs also appeared in Happy Gilmore 2. Stars like Bad Bunny, Travis Kelsey, Eminem, Post Malone, Guy Fieri and Jeopardy host Ken Jennings also made cameos in the film.
