KTM 390 Adventure R vs Enduro R: What’s the difference?

2025 KTM 390 Adventure R Review

KTM has introduced two new models this time: 390 Adventure R and 390 Enduro R. Both have the same 399cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which generates 45 hp of power and 28.8 lb-ft of torque. This is the same engine that is also seen in the KTM 390 Duke, RC 390 and 390 SMC R. All these bikes are manufactured in India in partnership with Bajaj.

Two variants of the 390 Adventure will be available in 2025 –

  • 390 Adventure X: 19/17-inch cast wheels, 7.8 inches of suspension travel, priced at $5,899
  • 390 Adventure R: 21/18-inch spoke wheels, 9 inches of suspension travel, priced at $6,999

The Adventure R variant also gets you premium features like advanced suspension settings, rain mode, and cornering ABS/traction control.

Power and Performance: Powerful and balanced

The 399cc DOHC 4-valve engine is capable of reaching triple-digit speeds on the highway, but is still easy to control on technical trails. The engine is smooth at the bottom end, revs quickly and makes the rider feel its performance at every moment.

The quickshifter (up/down) is an optional feature, but its smooth performance is commendable both on and off-road.

Frame, Weight and Ride Quality

The bikes have a tubular-steel trellis frame and aluminum subframe.

  • The Enduro R weighs 367 pounds (with a 2.4-gallon fuel tank).
  • The Adventure R weighs 388 pounds (with a 3.7-gallon tank).

Still, the Adventure R feels more comfortable and balanced on the trails.

Suspension and Control

Both bikes have WP Apex suspension that offers 9 inches of travel.

  • The front bike has a 43mm fork with 30 steps of compression and rebound adjustment.
  • The rear bike has a separate piston shock absorber that allows rebound (20 clicks) and preload adjustment (via a spanner).

The Adventure R’s suspension settings are comfortable and stable on both trails, gravel and fast-paced roads.

Design and tech: Modern and functional

The bike features a vertical windscreen and a rally tower with a 5-inch TFT display, making it easy to read navigation and bike data while riding. A GPS mount is also pre-installed.

With the help of the KTMconnect Bluetooth system, you can connect a smartphone and use a number of other features including turn-by-turn navigation.

Ride modes:

  • Street
  • Off-road
  • Rain

ABS, traction control and throttle response can be customized in these modes.

Braking and safety

Bybre brakes –

  • Front: 2-piston caliper + 320mm floating disc
  • Rear: 1-piston caliper + 240mm disc

The control is very impressive and precise with hydraulic steel-braided lines and adjustable front levers.

Riding Experience: Fun on All Terrains

The Adventure R’s low seat height (34.2 inches) and wide saddle make it even more convenient for shorter riders. The riding triangle is open – meaning it’s easy to ride both in a seated and standing position.

The footpegs are sturdy and grippy, ensuring stability even on trails.

Conclusion: Why buy the KTM 390 Adventure R?

The KTM 390 Adventure R isn’t just an off-road bike – it’s an all-round package.

  • Comfortable for long rides
  • Stable on the highway
  • Powerful off-roading

If you want a bike that can tackle all kinds of terrains and is also technically advanced, the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R won’t disappoint.
