Shivangi Joshi played Naira Goenka in ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ from 2016 to January 2021. She was accompanied on the show by Mohsin Khan, who played her on-screen husband Kartik Goenka. As Naira, Shivangi played Akshara and Naitik’s daughter as well as Akshara (who was named after her late mother) and Kairav’s mother. The pairing of Kartik and Naira remained the main identity of the show from 2016 to 2021.
In January 2021, a major twist came in the show when Naira was shown falling off a cliff while saving Kartik’s life. After this accident, Naira was presumed dead. However, some strangers save her life, but she goes into a coma and her family remains unaware of this truth. Shivangi Joshi then returned to the show as a new character “Sirat Shekhawat”. In the role of Sirat, Shivangi became a boxer who is Naira’s lookalike and Sheela’s daughter. This character was also introduced in the show in January 2021.

The show was about Kartik and Sirat’s love story and wedding preparations, but the story took a new turn with Ranveer’s entry. Ranveer was played by Karan Kundrra, who was shown as Sirat’s first love. The current story focuses on Sirat and Ranveer’s wedding.
